Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on people and the environment. Third-party certification organizations verify that organic producers use only methods and materials allowed in organic production. Most cotton is not as environmentally benign as you might expect. Conventionally grown cotton consumes approximately 25% of the insecticides and more than 10% of the pesticides used in the world.Conventional farming devours roughly a third of a pound of pesticides and fertilizers to produce enough cotton for a single T-shirt.The production of cotton has a huge impact on the health of people and the environment.
